A very fine and extremely rare and large Georgian mahogany wing armchair with blind fretwork carving to both arms and extensive foliate pierced fretwork carving the seat rails with curved carved aprons.

The front legs beautifully carved at knees with acanthus and drop bell husks and set on layered naturalistic lion paw and claw feet.   Both rear raked legs with carved borders and scrolls at the foot.

Newly upholstered in a top quality heavyweight silk weave fabric, a c.1900 fabric bought unused on a roll and the pattern of which works fabulously with the carved detailing on the chair.

This is a very large and capaciously comfortable chair of exceptional quality.   Extremely heavy and solid with no weakness or movement in the joints and no breaks, repairs or replacements to the show frame other than some very tiny professional repairs to small losses on the carved apron on one side.

Of superb quality and in excellent original condition and by repute, for generations until recently, in a castle in Belgium
