Full Description
A most attractive early 18th century oak wing armchair, with beautifully carved original back panel of foliate S scrolls and with shaped crest and small scrolls to the top rail. Peg jointed and nailed up with original hand forged iron nails. The chair retains its original seat rails with woven
stringing.

I have had a cushion professionally made for the chair, well padded and upholstered in a wonderful quality House of Hackney Artemis velvet.

The chair is extremely comfortable, with good width between the arms and a deep broad seat.

In very good original condition throughout, solid and heavy with no weak joints. Minor dings, marks and scuffs consistent with age. Both back legs have been re-tipped in oak, entirely usual for a chair of this great age and this old restoration is reflected in my price. Well developed patina and natural rich deep colour.

Very good and unusual - an early provincial winged armchair which carries many of the finer details seen on 17th century Great chairs.. and as such, a rather refined example.
