The tall arched back curves down to finely shaped wings which extend form the undulating arched arms.
The walnut frame is particularly attractive with curved and channel carved X form stretchers, turned baluster legs with cup and cover centres and raked tapered and squared back legs. All set on small barrel brass casters. The chair is peg jointed and made in the traditional manner by hand but in our view is mid to late 19th century.
Very heavy and upholstered in a fine quality silver blue cut velvet damask with fringed feather filled squab cushion. The upholstery in good condition, originally somewhat darker in colour but evenly sun lightened to all visible faces and without tears, scratches or marks or any noticeable wear.
From a private estate with good provenance.
Large and capacious, very well padded and extremely comfortable with a lovely rake to the back and soft feather filled squab cushion to the seat.
A strikingly beautiful and high quality chair, strongly recommended.
