It is always a great pleasure to find everyday furniture from the 18th century which was made so well that it has survived generations of daily use in fine fettle.
This charming bed step is one such example of vernacular British furniture.
It is made from fine oak boards and completely original. The maker having gone to great lengths to add attractive detailing in the shaped aprons to front, sides and back - and instead of just a simple oval cut out for the handle, a hand carved butterfly shaped opening.
In excellent original condition and a good natural colour with wear, marks and dings consistent with age and use.
