Full Description
A true and beautiful pair of early 17th century child back stools, in oak, with original seat rails and in amazingly good original condition. The U-gouge chip carved back rails, the upper one with channel carved arches and punched flower decoration – all original and retaining their finely turned spindles and original pegs.

Beautiful exposed tenons to the box stretchers and both with a superb and naturally developed colour and patina. Sturdy and usable, newly rushed in place of later upholstery as the original seat rails have never seen the light of day and show the grooves along their tops from their original rush.

Some very old re-tipping to the feet.

A superb and exceptionally rare pair of small back chairs.
