Full Description
A rarely found entirely original Charles II oak side table with single drop flap, original timbers throughout, even original forged iron hinges.   These single flap tables were designed to act as serving tables and were positioned on a wall close to the main table.  The drop flap when extended allowed for a considerable serving space and, with the flap lowered, the table would take up very little room when not in use.  It has never had two flaps, it was designed to have one and very few examples as good as this have survived.

The colour is exemplary and the patination - which is entirely natural - has a sheen like glass.

The well turned legs united by original stretchers and are peg jointed.   The bed has a few light lines in the timber which are original and caused by the wind or water saw having a broken tooth when trimming this board,

The gate leg sweeps out smoothly to support the drop leaf. The leaf itself has developed a slight smile over the centuries but is entirely usable.

An extremely attractive and original 17th Century English oak table.
