Full Description
An exceptional early walnut chair dating from c. 1560 with intricately scroll carved back splats inlaid with oak and with small cross to central cartouche. With beautifully shaped and scroll carved front stretcher and shapely rear stretcher. The back legs surmounted by small well carved and personalised and arms carved with small figures with leafy terminals, the arms carved with leaves and supported on two figural herms again with leafy terminals. The figures carved in the solid and each of the legs a single piece of walnut.

A remarkable early chair and a rare survivor of superb colour and condition, solid and usable, exceptionally rare.
