Full Description
This beautiful Chestnut two part armoire has a superb colour and is in very good original condition. Made by a skilled hand in c. 1780-181- the doors have finely carved reeded borders, roundels and C-scrolls. These are repeated in the arched cornice, with a centred carved nautical star to both the cornice and the plinth. The legs are carved at the hips with small roundels.

The armoire has developed a very good colour and chestnut is a beautiful hardwood with a warm rich tone and a dense swirling grain.

Inside there are three original solid and removable shelves.

The whole piece is heavy and robust, with attractive panelled sides and backboards (original timbers throughout) and set on tall hocked and elegant legs. All in very good condition for age with only minor marks, wear and small dings consistent with caring use. Both of the locks are later but have a working key, the doors open smoothly and close properly on the original pintel hinges. There is an original internal hook lock to the upper cupboards.

Dismantles into two parts - upper and lower cupboards. The cornice is fixed - please measure carefully as this is a tall piece.

A beautiful and practical piece of 18th century furniture offering a huge amount of storage which would look great in any room and suit a great many uses.
