Such a beautiful and fine example in excellent condition, this glorious George III linen press exudes quality and has been well cared for all of its life

case is 37 inches high, upper case and cornice are 52.5 inches high.
Internal/usable drawer depths are graduated as follows: top 6.25 inches,
middle row, 7.25 inches, bottom row 8.25 inches.
For metric please multiply by 2.5
The oak lined linen slides in the uppercase original also and thelovely shaping to the sides of these demonstrates that the maker has taken every care in the detail and finish. The drawers to the lower case are oak lined and the press retains its original handles, locks and escutcheons.
The mahogany is superb with a superior colour and wonderful figure which has been carefully matched across the drawers and in fielded panels to the doors. The doors with applied moulded borders inset to each corner with original satinwood fans. The frieze below the cornice with three oval satinwood inlaid floral cartouches with harewood, walnut and ebony inlays which are original also and highlight the cabinet work and fine quality of the mahogany. The cornice is original also with fret carved broken pediment with gilded roundels and centred with a small mahogany carved vase shaped finial.
All set on original bracket feet.
The press is very slender at only 18 inches/41 cms deep, giving considerable storage throughout without taking up the whole room and is in very good, usable condition.
Upper case with cornice can be detached from lower case for transport.
Minor marks, dings, a round hole has been cut in the back of one rear foot bracket. Alterations and restorations.
