Full Description
A very good and original George II mahogany mirror in excellent original condition and retaining its original mirror plate.

A very atmospheric mirror – so many of the plates in these were changed in the 19th century but here the plate is the original and the mirror is as it was made. The mirror has foxed naturally and evenly over the last 270 years but still gives a reasonable reflection.

The frame completely original also with a carved gilded (in pure gold) slip and a gilded foliate cartouche in a fretwork carved circular window. The outer frame well shaped with carved scrolls and the plate is surrounded with a lovely ogee cushion border.

It is as though the mirror has sat on the same wall for centuries as it is untouched and carries no damage or repairs or later re-gilding.
