Full Description
This is an extremely good quality early George III chest on chest made of solid Cuban mahogany and retaining original solid brass bail handles with ring turned fixings, original locks and small English escutcheons. The drawers are fully oak lined with fine dovetails and with a lovely original secretaire drawer in the Chippendale manner (see Chippendale's 'Clerks Desk and Lady Sabine Winn's secretary drawer at Nostell Priory) with small graduated drawers and pigeon holes with lovely original brass handles and with a British racing green leather skiver with gold tooled detail.

In very good original condition indeed with only minor scuffs, small dents and wear consistent with age and very careful use. All of the drawers open and close smoothly and have original linings with wainscot oak bottom boards. Panelled and boarded backboards also of high quality and this is clearly a City cabinet maker's piece. Attractive flared cornice with figured broad walnut crossbanding and lovely canted and reeded flanks to the upper case. Original and substantial bracket feet.

This is a superb example in Cuban mahogany with an excellent colour and dating from c. 1765

Very well made, heavy and robust, completely usable.
