An extremely rare set of four George I Irish Mahogany side chairs

Dimensions
40 inches high, 20 inches deep, 25 inches wide at feet and 23 inches wide at widest part of seat.

From floor to top of seat pad is 18 inches. The back is 18.5 inches wide at shoulders and 17 inches wide at waist.

From front to back of seat pad is 16 inches.

Chairs of this type are illustrated in 'Knight of Glin/Peill, Irish Furniture' page 208. This is one of the earliest uses known of mahogany in Irish furniture

An original and exceptionally rare set of four George I mahogany Irish chairs of particularly high quality in all respects. Cabriole legs with shell carved knees and ball and claw feet. Shell carved top rail with vase shaped splat the ears terminating in roundels, D shaped drop in seat. Siinuous swept ankles and long, shaped toes which are webbed.

The chairs have original seat frames for the drop in seats and have been newly re-padded, lined with cotton and then upholstered in Gainsborough Weaving Company Tapestry.
