Full Description
A most attractive George I solid oak box stool made in c. 1725 and retaining the original hinges and original solid brass ornate hasp and lock. The lid rises smoothly and closes properly.
Solid and in good condition throughout with original pegged, tenon and dovetailed joints.
Good rich natural patina to oak and to the brass hardware.
There are a small number of worm holes and tracks to the base, nothing significant and very much dead. There is a fine old shrinkage crack to the lid – centuries old and will not move further. Small knocks and dings and marks consistent with age and caring use.
With a good warm colour to the oak throughout, would work particularly well as an attractive side or lamp table and of course as a stool! And it offers useful storage.
A lovely early English oak box stool made by skilled hands in c. 1725.
