Full Description
A particularly fine and original George I pier glass with original gilding. The exquisitely shaped arched cresting with central scallop shell and with stylised strapwork and channel carved borders interspersed with flower heads and bell husks.
The plate is a later 19th century replacement and is thick hand made glass and reflects well without foxing, degradation or significant marks.
A few small restorations and some tiny losses consistent with age and use.
Extremely striking and rarely found, carved and then detailed in gesso with red clay bole, then dressed in pure gold leaf. Retaining the original oak backboard and ready to hang.
A very attractive, finely detailed and very rare high quality pier glass which will light up the room.
