George III Flamed Mahogany Chest on Chest c. 1760

Full Description
A magnificent English mahogany chest on chest of the
finest quality. Solid mahogany carcase with full oak linings to the
drawers and all in immaculate original condition.



Neoclassical in style and made in around 1760-1770. The moulded cornice
above an architectural card cut frieze, the chamfered reeded sides
designed as pilasters on the upper case with three frieze drawers over
three long graduated drawers. The lower case wtih three long graduated
drawers and set on original bracket feet.



The whole dressed with magnificently figured mahogany which has been
well matched and with solid mahogany side panels. The chest has a
glorious rich colour and is of practical useable proportions and height,
the upper drawers are easily reached.



Condition: complete and original in every respect. The heavy and
elaborately cast brass handles and escutcheons are original also and in
fine condition. No significant dings, dents or marks. No wobbles or
loose joints, wear is light and colour is particuarly well developed.
Some tiny professional repairs to the cockbeading and card cut moulded
frieze - extremely difficult to see even on close inspection.
Beautiful and natural patina - not french polished. No damage.

for all of its life All of the drawers open and close smoothly and have
clean strong interiors and finely cut dovetailed joints.
