James I Oak Nulled Carved Slope Front Bible Box on Stand c. 1615

A very early 17th Century oak bible box on stand with nulled carved decoration

Dimensions
38 inches high, 27 inches wide at feet and 25 inches wide at top.

19 inches deep at feet. Box itself is 2.5 inches high at back and 6 inches high at front.

Full Description
A very early 17th Century oak bible box on stand with nulled carved decoration and geometric carved banding to base of box inset with punchwork design with repeated design to all four sides of the frieze to the stand. The stand raised on unusual turned columnar legs.

Three interior drawers, all of nailed construction.

Principally original with some later elements and restorations with feet later retipped by a small margin, 2 later stretchers, added braces beneath lid and to top of stand/frieze.

Peg jointed of good colour and with attractive age related wear.

Initialled beneath box HC 1871 and CH CSA 1883 (in ink - Victorian owners) and small initials carved to top of slope L.H.

Original strap hinges, later lock plate and hasp.
