Full Description
A large and beautiful carved and gilded mirror, the classical basket cresting filled with lambs tongue foliage and flowers. The branch and foliate carved borders united by C scrolls and S scrolls around an inner border of architectural design and with an elaborate scroll carved apron interspersed with flowers and foliage.

The original hand made mirror plate in excellent condition and giving a lovely clear and deep reflection throughout with approximately six tiny dark freckles/marks which are not noticeable except on very close inspection (photo of the mirror plate can be sent on request).

Bearing a trade label verso for John Gardner of 30 Trinity Street Cambridge (late of 34 Buckingham Gate, London SW1). John Gardner appears in the Trinity Street Directory in 1835 and appears to have continued trading until the mid 1850s.

A similarly sized giltwood mirror with John Gardner’s trade label was sold at Christies in 1995.

In very good original condition with a few small depletions to the extremities of the foliate frame and superficial wear to the gilt consistent with age and use.

A really attractive and substantial mid 19th century mirror of excellent quality.
