Full Description
A beautifully matched pair of cabinets with triple reed bordered solid mahogany tops tops over a single frieze drawer with hand cast solid brass lion head handles. The pair of cupboard doors with brass triple reeded border and the flanks inlaid with ebony strung lozenges above an ebony strung tall rectangular column.

Solid mahogany case, including the drawer linings with fine dovetails. The fielded panels to the doors and drawer front are dressed with well figured and crotched mahogany crotched and the single shelf within each cupboard is original and adjustable.

Superb quality, heavy and well made, these cabinets are beautiful and practical with lovely proportions and a very good consistent colour to the mahogany and lovely rich but soft natural sheen.

These cabinets are of an identical size, colour, construction and form and appear to all intent and purpose to be a true pair but there are small subtle differences – the original door hinges on each are slightly different and the lion head handles on one are a tiny fraction larger than on the other.

Even alongside each other they appear an exact pair. Both made by skilled hands in c. 1830.

Each cabinet with old marks, dings, scratches and small repairs consistent with age and use. One drawer lining with replaced central mahogany brace (internal). These matters not unusual for period cabinets and reflected in our asking price.

Not stamped but beautifully made and of a sophisticated form consistent with a good early 19th century London maker such as Gillows.
