An extremely rare, large and beautiful 16th century medieval solid walnut coffer with superbly carved Gothic tracery to the front panel. The carving mimics a church window of the period and the coffer retains its original hasp and original lock plate. The upper two-thirds of back panel has been replaced, a long time ago, in solid walnut, feet again old but a later addition. All other timbers, the top a single pieces of solid walnut, base boards, front and side panels and lower third of the back board are the original timbers.
The coffer having a fabulous dark toffee colour and exceptionally rich patination.
