This is a very large and well made chest of drawers with beautiful and original solid brass handles and escutcheons of Chinese Chippendale design.
The chest has two short over four long drawers, all fully oak lined with clean robust dovetail jointed interiors and the drawers open and close smoothly. All locks are present but are mostly 19th century replacements.
Original timbers throughout including the backboards and substantial bracket feet. With solid oak drawer fronts, side panels and top boards.
Lovely colour and in excellent condition with only a few superficial dings and marks consistent with very caring use over the centuries. There is a small corner repair to the lowest drawer - an old and professional restoration as shown in our photos, and a small loss to the very tip of the rear right hand corner of the top boards which is largely covered and obscured by the cornice.
Exceptionally heavy and high quality, made in c. 1780, probably from a London workshop.
Please note that the chest does not dismantle and even with the drawers removed the chest requires two strong people to lift it.
Lovely warm mid oak colour with attractive medullary rays to the oak and retaining a good waxed finish.
A beautiful, serious and substantial Georgian chest of drawers.
