Full Description
An impressively large and beautiful English cheval mirror of particularly fine quality and dating from c.1815.

Of French Empire design, the original frame with substantial tapering columns of figured mahogany mounted with exquisitely incised bronze mounts in the classical form, and the base of each column with large bronze rings of matching form.

All is original including the mirror plate which is extremely thick glass with a few areas of background foxing - very difficult to see at all and only visible when you shine a light across the glass from the side. The reflection is clear and true.

The frame to the mirror is dressed in flame mahogany laid in a lovely radiating pattern.

All set on four substantial arched feet retaining original brass casters.

The whole in excellent showroom condition with only minor losses, scuffs and dings consistent with age and use.
The mirror back is finished in a Regency Blue heavyweight silk and linen mix fabric of geometric design.

The French Empire design became popular in the Regency period when the fashions of the Napoleonic court were adopted by the Prince Regent and aristocracy and this mirror was made between 1810 and 1820.

This superior quality example is extremely heavy and has been well cared for all of its life.

The cabinet making is exemplary and the frame strong and level. The mirror can be positioned at an angle or hang straight on original engraved brass pintels.
