This is a very lovely and very solid harlequin set of six country oak chairs each made in around 1760 and each of the same rich and well developed colour.
Sturdy and original, the rush seats in excellent order also.
These chairs have a very tactile feel – some sets just ‘sing’ and these have lovely proportions, sit down very squarely, have attractive shaping to front legs, splats and stretchers and whilst it is effectively two sets of chairs brought together, they are very similar indeed and have clearly been together for most of their long lives because the oak has developed a rich warm colour and patination and condition of both frames and rush seats is excellent throughout.
Very usable and utterly charming set of mid 18th century country chairs which have clearly been well cared for to have survived all these years in such lovely condition.
