An absolutely beautiful and large French mirror of Baroque form with original bevelled plate mirror in excellent condition and with a superb giltwood frame highlighted with real silver, retaining original finish and dating from c. 1825.
The frame comprises a deep and finely carved gilded bead and guillouche border within an expansive leafy carved frame and with a strung pearl outer border. The frame surmounted by two beautifully detailed reclining putti. One is holding a lyre and the other a tambourine and each is very delicately carved with lovely faces of personality and expression. The putti are supported by a central leaf, scroll and tulip flower crest. At each corner the frame extends in a leafy flourish and to the base is a very elegant mount of finely carved leaves, vines, pearls and laurel branches.
No damage or repairs, finishes are original with some natural tarnish to the silver gilt as shown in our photos and which add to the mirror's charm but could be polished out. In very good original condition. The thickly bevelled mirror plate with the lovely softer hue of handmade glass and in superb condition also with no damage and only a tiny number, about five, age freckles/marks in the background.
Very heavy, the mirror has two secure wires at the back ready for hanging.
A superb quality and truly delightful early French mirror.
