Full Description
The large opal in excess of 1.5 ct with wonderful colours ranging through pinks to reds and blues, yellows and multiple vivid greens. The opal flanked by two large old cut diamonds and six small old cut diamonds on a deep gold shaped and tapering bar with original pin and high quality catch with lock. Lots of fire and sparkle to the diamonds and the brooch itself is 15 ct gold.

Dating from c. 1910 this brooch was originally retailed by Robert Stewart, Diamond Merchant of 75 Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow.

Brothers Allan and Robert Stewart set up their first shop in 1835 and Robert was appointed jeweller, wholesaler, goldsmith and silversmith to Queen Victoria in 1886.

The excellent condition of both the brooch and the original tan leather case clearly demonstrate how much this jewel has been treasured and cared for over the last 110 years.

Opals are associated with passion and diamonds with eternal love and commitment. In the Edwardian period the language of gemstones was well understood and jewels were made with the intention of conveying messages of love and desire.

This would be a very special Valentines gift and next day insured delivery within the UK is included in my price.
