Full Description
This is a beautiful coffer with an excellent naturally developed colour and original carved front. The top rail carved with beautifully formed lunettes, confident and fluidly carved by an experienced hand and repeated to the bottom rail. The stiles and muntins with foliage with flourishing terminals, deeply carved and showing the regularity of an experienced hand. Each fielded panel filled with stylised tulips.

The lid to the coffer is original and three panel also, the original iron loop hinges have been lost and replaced with early strap hinges but the original holes are undamaged and the looped hinges could easily be restored. The coffer with V cut feet and single boards of oak to sides, back and base.

Very sturdy, no issues, usable and beautiful.
