A superb quality, wonderfully comfortable and very substantial Victorian wingback armchair with substantial cabriole legs – well carved with scallop shells to the knees and scrolled hips - set on wide trifid feet in the Queen Anne manner.

The chair has been newly and fully re-upholstered before being covered in this heavy weight, thickly woven Zoffany fabric of early 18th century design in a deep burgundy plum and antique gold colourway.

The chair has a solid walnut showframe and dates from around 1890. It is robust with no repairs, damage, weakness, creaks or movement in the joints.

Very heavy, the rear walnut legs which are well shaped and raked slightly back – both front and rear legs are made and carved in the solid and have a lovely colour.

The chair retains its original deal and oak subframe and photographs taken during by the upholsterers during their work are available – please do just ask.

The back has a beautiful shape with wide swept wings and rolled out arms. The back, arms and seat are very well padded and the chair comes with a deep feather filled squab cushion.

Very roomy between the arms with a wide and deep seat, the back is tall and the chair has a good seated height.

Of the highest quality and a most attractive shape, this is a really striking chair. The Zoffany fabric suits it so well and it is a usable, comfortable and beautiful antique chair.
